VESSEL CONTEXT

A digital twin.
A deeper understanding.

A vessel is more than its latest reading. Bring its engineering, equipment and connected data into a digital context that helps your team ask better questions.

A marine digital twin is a digital representation of a vessel and its systems, connected to relevant data about that vessel. Its usefulness depends on the quality of its specifications, connected measurements and any models used to interpret them.

Three layers of understanding.

In Stimulate, a vessel profile and a digital twin provide context for connected data. The aim is to understand which boat a signal belongs to, which system it describes and what evidence supports an interpretation.

Engineering context
Vessel dimensions, equipment and supplied specifications describe the boat. These details need a known source and should be checked when the vessel or its systems change.
Connected measurements
Sensor readings describe observed conditions. Their timestamps, units and source matter as much as the numbers themselves.
Model context
Model estimates support interpretation. Their assumptions, data coverage and calibration determine what conclusions can reasonably be drawn.

A model is only part of the picture.

A 3D model represents shape. A sensor dashboard displays readings. A useful digital twin connects vessel identity, engineering and available data so people can relate observations to the systems producing them.

A realistic visual does not establish engineering accuracy. Sailub’s public assembly and radar animations are design concepts. They are separate from a customer’s connected twin and do not represent certified navigation or a validated prediction.

Know what the evidence says.

A battery voltage can be measured. A component specification can be supplied by an owner. A system’s future behaviour can be estimated by a model. These are different types of evidence and should remain recognisable.

For a pilot, agree which signals are available, how missing or old readings are identified and which model outputs are relevant. Independent calibration and field validation are needed before relying on an estimate for an engineering decision.

Prepare your vessel’s digital context.

  • Gather the vessel specifications and an equipment list.
  • Identify installed sensors, gateways and accessible data feeds.
  • Agree the questions the twin should help your team investigate.
  • Assign an administrator and the people authorised to access the vessel.

Sailub reviews the available sources and defines the pilot scope with your team. You can then connect the vessel in Stimulate using its administrator-issued connection code.
